Great Lakes and Mackinac Island

October 2-15, 2025

*Passport Needed

What better way to celebrate the fall season than leaf-peeping in the Great Lakes region with its spectacular display of yellow, orange, red, brown, and purple leaves!

This tour begins in Lubbock with overnights in Tulsa and St. Louis, then on to Illinois. Upon arriving in Chicago, we will tour the city’s world-famous architecture and landmarks from a boat on Lake Michigan. After checking into our hotel for the night, we will enjoy Chicago-style deep dish pizza, just like the locals!

Our journey continues the next day through Holland, MI (home of the only authentic, operational Dutch windmill in the U.S), then to Frankenmuth, MI, where we will stay at Bavarian Inn in the heart of “Michigan’s Little Bavaria.” A little shopping at the world’s largest Christmas store is planned, as well as a delightful German dinner to end the day.

The next day we begin driving toward Michigan’s upper peninsula, following the coast of Lake Huron to St. Ignace for the night. The following morning we board a ferry to take us to Michigan’s “Crown Jewel,” Mackinac Island. Upon arrival we will eat lunch, take a carriage ride tour of the island, then check into the extraordinary Grand Hotel, where a formal dinner will be served that night. After enjoying a fabulous breakfast the next morning, horse-drawn carriage taxis will take us downtown for shopping and lunch before we ferry back to the mainland and cross into Canada to spend two nights in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario.

On our first full day in Canada the Agawa Canyon Tour Train will take us through northern Ontario’s rugged beauty, crossing towering trestles, then descending 500 feet to the floor of the Agawa Canyon that was created more than 1.2 billion years ago by faulting and ice age reshaping! We will enjoy breakfast and lunch on the train and spend an hour and a half at the canyon park, before traveling back to Sault Ste. Marie for the night.

We say goodbye to Canada the next day and travel to Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore for a narrated boat cruise on the shoreline of Lake Superior. This 40-mile stretch of sandstone cliffs, sea caves, and beaches is inspiring and considered the most beautiful place in Michigan! We will spend the night in Marquette, MI then travel to Duluth, Minnesota the next day, with beautiful surprise stops along Lake Superior.

The next morning we will explore more of Duluth, travel to Minneapolis, MN for lunch and more sightseeing, then on to Rochester, MN for the night. The next day will be spent in Dyersville, Iowa for lunch and tours of the Field of Dreams movie site. An original ghost player from the movie will also share memories of making the film that inspired audiences everywhere to pursue their dreams!
After spending the night in Des Moines, IA and Wichita, Kansas we will continue our journey south toward home.
