Deep South Tour

April 10-24, 2025

There aren’t many places in the U.S. that can match the Deep South for charm, character, and history! This tour will take you to the very heart of southern United States.

After spending our first night of the tour in Marshall, TX, we begin our southern journey with an airboat swamp tour through a privately owned wildlife refuge near New Orleans. Our Cajun Captain will guide us through the primitive beauty of the moss-draped cypress trees while showing off the American Alligator and abundant wildlife. Upon arriving in New Orleans afterward, we will enjoy an authentic Cajun dinner.

The next morning, we head to Monroeville, AL to enjoy a stage adaption of Harper Lee’s novel To Kill A Mockingbird, performed in the Old Courthouse Museum where Harper Lee’s father practiced law, and was the inspiration for her book’s trial scene. During the trial scene, members of the audience can even be asked to participate in the performance! After the play we will drive to Montgomery, AL to spend the night.

An original Civil Rights foot soldier will give us a city tour of Montgomery the next morning, knitting his personal experiences into the vast history of the Civil Rights movement in Montgomery. Afterwards, we will travel to Atlanta, GA for the night.

Our day in Atlanta begins with a step-on guide tour of the city, including where the movie Gone With the Wind premiered in 1939 and the home of the author, Margaret Mitchell. We will see where the original Coca Cola formula was held in a bank vault, the 1996 Centennial Olympic games center, Martin Luther King, Jr. sites, to name a few. Then our afternoon will be spent at Stone Mountain to see the engraved sculpture on the side of the mountain of well-known Confederates Jefferson Davis and generals Robert E. Lee and Thomas “Stonewall” Jackson. We will also ride the gondola to the top of the mountain to experience amazing views of the Atlanta skyline and the Appalachian Mountains.

After our second night in Atlanta, we journey to Savannah, GA for two nights. We will tour Tybee Island, where pirates used to hide their treasure and Spanish explorers searched for riches in the New World! It is also home to the tallest and oldest light house in Georgia. The next day a trolley tour of the city is planned, then we will explore the heart of Savannah’s history and charm on a narrated harbor sightseeing cruise.

Leaving Savannah the next day we will drive to Charleston to enjoy a carriage ride tour of the city and an authentic Gullah lunch and tour at Boone Hall Plantation, where true descendants of the Gullah people present the history of their culture.

It wouldn’t be a southern tour without a trip to Biltmore Mansion, where we will stay in their luxurious hotel for two nights, tour the mansion and gardens, enjoy a step-on guide tour of the property, and eat lunch at the mansion’s Stable Café.

The next day we travel to Bryce City, NC and board the historic Great Smoky Mountain Railroad train for a front-row view of the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, Nantahala National Forest, Fontana Lake, along with extraordinary trestles, pristine mountain rivers, and historic structures. From there we go to Chattanooga, TN for the night.

We say goodbye to Chattanooga the next morning and head to Nashville, TN for lunch at the Opry Backstage Grill, then a tour of the Grand Ole Opry’s back stage to see the sights, the sounds, and the stories that only happen backstage! Later in the afternoon a guide will give us a tour of iconic Ryman Auditorium and its newest exhibit, ‘Opry 100 at the Ryman,’ among many other memorabilia.

We hit the road the next day to enjoy the Elvis Experience Tour at Graceland in Memphis, TN. We will tour Graceland, Elvis’ luxury cars and his plane, the Lisa Marie. After seeing other civil rights sites, we overnight at Peabody Hotel, where the famous ducks will greet us at 5:00pm.

The next day begins our journey home stopping in Little Rock for lunch and overnighting near Dallas, TX.
