Bluebonnets and Painted Churches

April 6-9, 2026

What better way to welcome the spring season than to enjoy the “the lovely petals of
Texas!” But, what are painted churches? They are a group of late 19th and early 20th-
century churches, located primarily in Central Texas, built by German and Czech immigrants,
famous for their stunningly ornate, colorful interiors, contrasting with simple exteriors, creating
Old World grandeur. Some were painted by travelers as a gesture of appreciation for services
the church provided.

Our first day we will travel to Fredericksburg to hunt bluebonnets and allow a little time
for shopping and dinner downtown. The next morning, we drive to San Marcos, stopping in
Dripping Springs for lunch, along with a tour and tasting at Texas Hill Country Olive
Company. If time allows, we will also make a stop in Wimberley. After checking into our hotel,
a group dinner is arranged at a local restaurant.

The next morning we drive to Schulenburg, where a step-on guide will give us a tour
of the beautiful painted churches that morning. A buffet lunch at Oakridge Smokehouse
has been arranged, then the tour continues that afternoon. We will overnight again in San
Marcos, with another arranged group dinner that evening.

The cost is: SINGLE $1621 per person; DOUBLE $1331 per person; TRIPLE $1256
