Route 66 To Amish Roads & Kentucky Charm

May 10-21, 2026

It is the 100 th anniversary of Route 66 this year! You will experience the nostalgia of historic Route 66 blended with the serene beauty of Amish farmlands, and the heartwarming hospitality of Kentucky!

Leaving Lubbock the first day, we will stop in Groom, McLean, and Shamrock, TX for photo opportunities, then lunch in Elk City, OK before arriving in Oklahoma City, OK for the night.

The next day we continue our Route 66 journey toward Joplin, MO with stops in Arcadia (Pops 66 Soda Ranch), Tulsa (Buck Atom’s Cosmic Curios and Route 66 Historical Village), and Commerce, OK (Mickey Mantle hometown tour).

From Joplin we travel the “Mother Road” to Springfield, MO to tour the Route 66 Car Museum and eat lunch. After checking out the neon sign park in St. Robert, MO, and the murals in Cuba, MO we will overnight in St. Louis, with more Route 66 points of interest there, as well as The Gateway Arch National Park.

We continue the next day to Springfield, IL where we will stop by Ace Sign Company, a family-owned sign company that showcases a remarkable collection of historic signs from Route 66. Our adventures in Springfield continue with tours of Abe Lincoln’s tomb, the Old State Capitol where Abe Lincoln practiced law, and the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Museum. Dinner that night is arranged at Maldaner’s, the oldest restaurant on Route 66, and maybe President Lincoln will join us as well!

On our way to Chicago the next day we will stop in Atlanta, IL (American Giants Museum), and Pontiac, IL (Illinois Route 66 Hall of Fame). We have planned a few photo opportunities in the ‘Windy City,” before checking into our hotel for the night.

Our tour shifts to Amish country after leaving Chicago and we head to Shipshewana, IN to first visit Menno-Hof Cultural Center, a multimedia guided tour about the faith and life of the Amish, and the Mennonites part in the 500-year lifestyle and religious tradition. After checking into our hotel, we will enjoy a home-style group dinner at Blue Gate and then a show afterward (“America’s 250 th – Our Nation’s Celebration”). After breakfast the next morning a step-on guide will introduce us to a variety of authentic experiences that will include farmsteads and homesteads, as well as makers and artisans off the beaten path. Then we will savor an “Amish Haystack” lunch in an Amish home! After lunch there will be time for shopping downtown before we drive to Kokomo, IN for the night.

Leaving Kokomo the next morning, we begin driving south toward Kentucky horse country where everyone will experience the history of the Headley family at Mill Ridge Farm, a 900 acre fully operational horse farm where the group will get up close and personal with the equine residents, even feeding them carrots! We will overnight in Lexington, KY that evening.

The next day we drive to Frankfort, KY, Kentucky’s capitol city, then on to Louisville, KY to enjoy lunch at Derby Café, a tour of Kentucky Derby Museum (including Churchill Downs), and then a factory tour at Louisville Slugger Museum. We will overnight in Louisville.

Our next adventure is in Cape Girardeau, MO where a step-on guide will give us a tour of Rush Limbaugh’s hometown, where one of America’s most influential radio personalities was born and raised. We will overnight here, next head to Texarkana, TX, and then Lubbock the last day.
