The Great Frontier Tour

AUGUST 16-26, 2023

Our August tour takes us to the prairie region of the United States! We spend the first night in Denver, CO. The next day we travel to Cheyenne, WY and hop on a trolley for a tour of the city before making our way to Custer, SD for the night. Next, we leave Custer and journey to Custer State Park, Crazy Horse Memorial (considered the 8th Wonder of the World in progress) and Mount Rushmore National Memorial on our way to Rapid City, SD for two nights. The following day will be spent touring Badlands National Park, visiting and eating at Wall Drug, then enjoying a chuckwagon dinner and show at the Dances with Wolves movie site. On our way to Medora, ND the next day we will make a stop at Devil’s Tower National Monument, an incredible butte located in the Black Hills of Wyoming. After arriving in Medora, ND the group will attend the famous Medora Musical, described as the rootin’-tootinest, boot-scootinest show in all the Midwest! The next day we have planned a guided tour of Theodore Roosevelt National Park, then Pitchfork Steak Fondue dinner that evening. From there, we will travel through Bismarck, ND (state capitol), on our way to Watertown, SD for the night. Dinner will be provided at the Goss Opera House, where historic charm meets modern elegance! After leaving Watertown we will make our way to De Smet, SD and visit the childhood home of Laura Ingalls Wilder, then on to Mitchell, SD, for a tour of the Corn Palace. It won’t be corny, though! We will see the beauty of the falls in Sioux Falls, SD then spend the night in Sioux City, IA. Next, we follow the yellow brick road to Wamego, KS, home to the Wizard of Oz Museum. That afternoon we head to Abilene, KS, for a tour of the Eisenhower Presidential Library and Boyhood Home, where we will explore the life and legacy of the only 5-star General who became President of the U.S. As we start traveling south toward home we plan to stop in Pawhuska, OK for lunch and shopping at The Pioneer Woman Mercantile. Depending on their filming schedule we might even get to take a tour of the lodge where her show is taped!
