Under the Northern Lights: A Subarctic Winter Adventure

February 14-18, 2027

PASSPORT REQUIRED

Prepare for the journey of a lifetime as we head far north of the 60th parallel! King’s Highway Tours invites you on an extraordinary winter getaway to Yellowknife, Northwest Territories, Canada—widely celebrated as the Northern Lights Capital of North America. From towering ice structures to pristine frozen lakes, this immersive, fully guided tour balances exhilarating arctic thrills with cozy, bucket-list moments!

Our adventure begins as we fly out of Lubbock, Texas and make our way to beautiful Vancouver, British Columbia. We will check into our accommodations for a relaxing one-night stay, giving everyone time to rest, enjoy a delicious dinner, and prepare for our journey into the subarctic wilderness the next day!

Our Subarctic adventure includes:

* An exclusive tour of the “Diamond Capital of North America” with a knowledgeable local guide. You’ll discover Yellowknife’s fascinating gold rush history, its rich Indigenous cultural roots, and its modern status as a diamond hub.

* A visit to a working Ice Village on the frozen waters of Great Slave Lake. We will marvel at the monumental snow and ice carving architecture as local builders and artists construct the legendary Snowcastle. We will walk along the incredible Dettah Ice Road, snap photos next to towering ice walls, and see how a community thrives on a frozen bay.

* A magical daytime dog sledding journey that glides swiftly across winding, snow-packed trails through a pristine winter forest, pulled by a team of friendly, high-energy Alaskan Huskies!

* Ride modern snowmobiles driven entirely by certified professionals. You will sit back, hold onto the heated handles, and feel the crisp northern air as your guide expertly pilots you across the sparkling, expansive ice sheets of Great Slave Lake and through hidden boreal pathways!

* An after dark dog sled ride across expansive, frozen lakes through the narrow trails of the snow-laden Boreal forest to a cozy cabin, where we will watch for the dancing, vibrant ribbons of green and purple of the Aurora Borealis across the sky, and enjoy coffee and hot cocoa too!

The last day we bid a fond farewell to the Northwest Territories and catch our flight back south to Lubbock. You’ll return home with a camera full of extraordinary photos and the unforgettable memory of standing under the great northern sky with the King’s Highway Tours travel family.
