Christmas Around the World

December 4-9, 2023

King’s Highway is celebrating Christmas around the world in Omaha, Nebraska this year! You won’t even need a passport! Our first night will be spent in Wichita, KS. The next day we continue traveling to Omaha. After checking into our hotel we start our festive, cultural holiday experience with ‘Christmas in Germany’ at the German American Society Center. While eating an authentic German dinner we will enjoy German holiday favorites sung by the men’s choir and German dancers. The evening ends with a sing-a-long of “Silent Night”.

The next morning a step-on guide will give us a tour of Omaha’s past, present, and future. After lunch and some shopping on your own at the Old Market Entertainment District, we head to the Lauritzen Gardens to see hundreds of poinsettias on display, as well as their Christmas tree decorated with 700 poinsettias! There will be time for shopping in their fabulous gift shop as well. For dinner we have planned a good old fashioned southern meal at Big Mama’s, who has been featured on the Food Network’s Diners, Drive-ins, and Dives! Our after-dinner entertainment is at the Omaha Community Playhouse to see their performance of the Dickens classic, “A Christmas Carol”.

Our day begins the next morning at Father Flanagan’s Boys Town, decorated for the holidays according to Irish Christmas holiday traditions. A tour of Father Flanagan House, hall of history, and a guided driving tour Boys Town is planned. Lunch is planned at the unique Upstream Brewing Co., located in the Historic Old market District. After lunch we continue our holiday adventure at Union Train Station of Omaha and The Durham Museum. They always have a huge holiday tree in the main hall. Ethnic communities decorate small holiday trees to represent their own unique heritage too. The museum takes you back to the 1930’s train depot where you can imagine the crowds of people and the sound of steam engines while looking over the many rail cars on the Track level. Before dinner Olesia Reprichowskyj, a Ukrainian speaker, will share her experiences as a child slave laborer for the German Army during World War II, as well as a presentation about the history, customs, and Christmas traditions in the Ukraine. Dinner this evening is at St. John’s Greek Orthodox Church, where we will also enjoy a tour of the Byzantine style church and a Greek holiday program.

Our last day in Omaha, NE starts at the Tea Smith. A professional tea master will give a brief overview of the blending and flavoring of teas. We will enjoy sampling a variety of holiday teas as well! Next, we will be transported to Scotland, with a visit to the historic 1903 Joslyn Castle. This 30-room stone mansion resembles a traditional Scottish castle. We will hear the fascinating story of George and Sarah Joslyn and how the couple shared their extraordinary wealth with the community. Before leaving Omaha we will experience a taste of Ireland at the Brazen Head Irish, restaurant for lunch. After lunch we travel to Wichita, KS again for the night, and the next day back to Lubbock.

Your trip includes transportation, lodging, all activities, and breakfast each morning plus 5 meals.
