The BEST way to experience Alaska is by motorcoach! Traveling by bus will allow you a more intimate experience of “the last frontier,” like no cruise ship can. Especially with Tom as your driver. This will be his 5th tour to Alaska!
This is the longest tour we travel in number of days, but time-wise the shortest because there is SO MUCH to see and do! We will start out quickly, spending the night in Denver, CO, Sheridan, WY, Shelby, MT. Then we slow down at Edmonton, Alberta where we will spend two nights at Fantasyland Hotel. While there we will tour the city, capital building, and historic parks. As we head north, we will overnight in Dawson Creek, the beginning of the Alcan Highway. Then our overnight stays include Ft. Nelson, Watson Lake (home of the “sign forest”), Whitehorse and Beaver Creek on our way to Fairbanks. We will take a tour of the S.S. Klondike Steamboat in Whitehorse. At Fairbanks a riverboat tour (and lunch) is planned that takes us along the river and tells about Alaska history and lifestyle. That evening we will go to a Salmon Bake and a musical comedy show at the Palace Theatre. Traveling south the next day to Denali Park, an afternoon history tour will take us into the park to catch some wildlife and maybe a view of Mt. McKinley. As we continue south to Anchorage, we will spend two nights there, enjoying a step-on guide tour of the area and a ULU Knife Factory tour as well. The next day we head east, spending the night in Tok, Haines Junction, and Skagway before catching the ferry to Juneau where will spend two nights. In Juneau we will take the Tracy Arm Fjord Glacier Tour, getting up close and personal with a glacier you can actually touch! The view is spectacular of the Alaska coastline too. The next day there will be free time in town before we board the ferry again, traveling the Alaska Marine Highway Ferry system (just like the cruise ships). Spending one night on the ferry, everyone will have their own space and schedule. The route follows the Inside Passage and there are opportunities to see whales, eagles and other wildlife as we travel. Landing at Prince Rupert, we will spend the night in Smithers, BC, McBride, BC; Calgary, AB, Billings, MT and Colorado Springs, CO on the way home. As with all our tours, there will be surprise stops along our journey.
